Two former NBA all-star teammates will be joining together once again to draw a crowd, though not by playing ball, but by selling cannabis.  Yep, times have changed!

Former Supersonics Shawn Kemp and Gary Payton were quite the dynamic duo back in the 1990s.  What was perhaps most fascinating about them was the fact they shared the same #6 BEIR Brain Type, though their outward personalities were definitely not-so shared.  Raised on the streets of Oakland, CA, Gary was quite outlandish, throwing punches and talking smack like he owned the court (which he often did).  Growing up in rural Indiana, Kemp was a silent killer (with a look that could kill), and often let his inborn talent do the talking (though he did get in spats of his own from time to time).  Both struggled academically in school, which is not surprising for #6s. With great potential to excel intellectually, unless #6s find a subject of immediate relevance, books are a bother. Though the pair of BEIRs never won an NBA championship (thanks in large part to fellow #6 BEIR Michael Jordan), they were an intimidating force to contend with under the watchful coaching eye of George Karl (#7 FEIL).

At any rate, Kemp will be joined by Payton this Friday for the grand opening of Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis store. “I’m looking forward to welcoming Sonics fans on a regular basis, starting with opening day,” Kemp said in a news release. “I hope that Shawn Kemp’s Cannabis will be an inspiration for people to get involved with the legal cannabis industry, especially people of color.”  Reports over the decades have Kemp involved in past substance abuse. Evidently, he has now delved into and benefited from the use of legal marijuana, and hopes to help others while making some useful income on the side.
