His name was Elden “Easy E” Campbell, a kind, popular power forward known for his calm demeanor, hustle, and pivotal roles on the Los Lakers Lakers and the Detroit Pistons’ 2004 championship. Tragically, Campbell died several weeks ago from drowning after suffering a medical emergency while fishing. According to Campbell’s sister, Sandra, the medical emergency occurred “all the sudden” when Campbell had “returned to shore after fishing in Florida and that the family doesn’t know what happened.”
Elden was indeed a unique individual, and a true-blue #2 BEAR through and through. As far as we know, there has only been one other athlete in sports who shared the nickname “Easy”, and he’s from the world of golf. Can anyone guess? Does the name Ernie Els ring a bell? And does anyone remember Ernie’s inborn Brain Type? Yes, ironically, Ernie is another #2 BEAR. Known for their easier, laid-back demeanors and approach to life, it’s no surprise that Elden and Els shared the same quinteicential #2 nickname. As mentioned oft before on the Blog, #2 BEARs (males in particular) are widely known to last a long while in both sports and in life, and we have a good suspicion that it has something to do with their more “even-keel” approach to life. Ironically, to be more specific, both men were known officially as “The Big Easy” (for their stature and behavior).
“As a basketball player, he was extremely athletic,” Magic Johnson (#1 FEAR) said. “I loved throwing lobs to Elden because he could jump out the gym and had so much talent!” Magic also added that Elden “was such a gentle soul.”
Campbell was just 57 years old.
