One major facet that separates Brain Types from any prior understanding of human behavior and performance is the motor skills connection. While these videos are provided to aid BTInsiders in visually identifying each Brain Type’s motor skills, they are only provided as samples of how each design might/can move (variations will result due to previous athletic training, nurture, and genetic variables). They are not sufficient for training you how to accurately distinguish each Brain Type from another. The #1 FEAR is often the most outgoing, fun-loving, and entertaining person in a crowd. He or she loves life and people, seeking attention and pleasure in every situation that arises. FEARs have a flair for style, often dressing like “a million” whether they have it or not.
“Look at me” is usually the heart’s cry of the FEAR. FEARs can thrive on being in front of others, displaying their showmanship. They are light hearted, romantic and optimistic. They need to feel the love and care of others more than most Brain Types.
Controlling their weight is one area that can be a problem. (FEARs are particularly sensitive in the emotional center of the Right brain, a biological trigger for the aforementioned problematic areas.) FEARs are gross-motor dominant; they rely mostly on their big-muscle movements (versus fine-motor).
#1 FEARs are more caught up in the moment than most other Brain Types; placing a high value on education and their future is often not done. Unless an ‘ER‘ child develops a strong interest and discipline in formal learning at an early age, he or she will probably struggle with school. The ability is there, just not the innate interest.
FEARs seek immediate relevancy to learning; direct application of knowledge is greatly valued. Subjects of an abstract nature must be made practical and down-to-earth. FEARs are people of action. They do not like to sit still when learning. Acting out the learning process, they enjoy hands-on involvement. If the learning process can’t be fun or highly interesting, the FEAR tends to tune out—and start fidgeting. FEARs learn best in a harmonious, friendly environment. An impersonal teacher dampens the learning spirit of this Animate Brain Type. To be effective with FEARs, teachers must be patient, kind, and repetitive. FEARs may not “get it” the first time through. Their optimal learning style incorporates experience and repetition.
From their day of birth, #1 FEAR children are active and ready to live life to the fullest. FEARs learn from doing, as kinesthetic learners. Let them touch, taste, feel, experience the lesson to be learned, and they’ll be content.
Normally gregarious and outgoing, FEARs take on the whole world as a friend, yet are very loyal to their closest ones. The life of the party, FEARs look for excitement in every situation and make most situations fun. Because they are Animates, FEARs notice and remember facts relating to people and can be very sensitive. They live in the present and enjoy being center-stage, not wanting competition in that area.
The impulsive nature of FEARs may need some help, and choosing their friends wisely is a must. They often get involved with athletics and are gross-motor skilled, proficient with the body’s large muscles. FEARs are among the top athletes in many professional sports. Put FEAR children with people, give them activities, and enjoy their warm, loving personalities.
The spiritual life of the energetic #1 FEAR will also be action-oriented and outward-focused. FEARs love to live life to the fullest, reveling in each day and the many opportunities it brings. Seeing needs in others and wanting to help them, FEARs extend invitations to join them and their religious group or assembly. FEARs may not go into deep theological discussions with those they see as needing spiritual guidance. Instead, they will give their own vibrant testimonies of what they believe. They will want to live out their faith more than articulate it.
In order to balance, we see the FEARs as needing to take all anxieties to God quickly and to take time to be quiet before God. They need to be tempered by self-discipline and logical thinking, being grounded in fact, not feeling. They may need to learn to forgive quickly, as their sensitive natures are easily offended.
FEARs often have the Biblical gifts of evangelism, mercy, and giving. Empathetic and generous, FEARs give of themselves and of their possessions. There are plenty of those in the world who need the big hearts and counsel of a spiritual FEAR.
In worship and prayer, FEARs need to base their requests and praise on what they know about God from Scripture, and what they know of God’s will as revealed in His Word. They need to spend time studying what they believe about God so they can worship Him in truth and have stability in their relationship to Him.
#1 FEARs often seek and need a Left-brainer for marriage. Being free-spirited and funloving, they need a balancing hand for structure and closure. He or she who marries the lively performer will be gratified to find a harmony-loving, caring and sensitive mate.
#1 FEARs desire affirmation and may reserve openness of affection, due to fear of rejection. They love to receive gifts, as well as to give them, generously lavishing their loved ones with extravagant tokens of caring. Mates of the FEAR should expect spontaneity, surprises, entertainment, humor, warmth, and optimism. The FEAR, in turn, loves it when these are reciprocated.
Caught up in enjoying the moment, self-control may be needed to deter impulsive decisions about dating and especially marrying. In touch with their Animate “feelings” at most times, however, and being realistic by nature, FEARs generally choose well, and work hard at keeping the harmony and romance in marriage.
Seeking excitement and variety, relief from monotonous daily routine, FEARs make life a celebration. They make engaging partners with few dull moments.
#1 FEARs thrive on good living, decorative surroundings, and stimulating conversation. They must have jobs relating to people. Being genuinely empathetic, they are actively concerned for the welfare of others. FEARs love working with people. This satisfies one of the major needs they have in life.
Rarely reclusive, they must have active, exciting, relational occupations. If in a confining job, they will look to add long lunch hours, or more distance in driving, just to break the monotony. The FEAR’s dominant cerebral function is Empirical “sensing.” Thus, the FEAR will often show a good amount of common sense, dealing well with the practical, real and immediate facts of life.
Interruptions are not a problem for the usually flexible and adaptable FEAR. They find it easy to use the telephone, a skill of special value to the businessperson. FEARs were probably as thrilled as any Brain Type when the cellular phones were invented. When they needed to talk, they could dial (or now, text) anytime, anywhere.
Tour and travel, sales, public relations, cosmetology, catering, performing arts, entertainment, athletics, nursing, child care, designing, counseling, transportation operatives, construction.
#1 FEARs give extraordinary attention to body and self-image—a trait of Empirical Right-brainers. Obtaining and maintaining well conditioned bodies, however, is not easy for most FEARs. They love food and eating, as well as social events, where food and goodies flow. Life is one big party to the FEAR more than any other Brain Type.
All Q1s (Front, Right-brainers) have a tendency to develop undisciplined and poor eating habits, including eating too much. If not careful, they can sometimes embrace the philosophy that they live to eat. FEARs are known to struggle more with being overweight than most other Brain Types. When dieting, FEARs need freedoms; they do poorly with the rigid structure that often works well with the more structured Left-brainers. As long as healthful steps are being implemented and adhered to, FEARs may take some liberties when dieting. If they are not allowed to enjoy their food cravings at least some of the time, they’ll usually end the diet and go back to their freedom-seeking ways—even if these ways are health damaging. On the other hand, in order to be successful in losing weight, they need to keep their liberties under control.
FEARs need to be aware of their tendency to change diet plans and escape exercise. FEARs diet best one day at a time rather than focusing on a long-term goal. They are people of today, now, and don’t usually live with a long-term perspective. Therefore, FEARs should focus on short-term objectives, such as finding success today with their new health emphasis.
#1 FEARs are high-energy Front, Right brained (Q1) EAs and are among the top few athletic Brain Types. Complementing their superior inborn spatial skills, FEARs master the big muscles of the body with speed, balance, rhythm, and timing. FEARs generally do not have the patience or discipline to learn a sport the introspective way that Back-brained ERs (BEIR and BEAR) do. It is helpful for them to take the time to learn the proper mechanics and techniques for their sport.
FEARs are, and can be, among the best in the world at their chosen sport, bringing showmanship to the game as no one else can. If you want to sell tickets or draw large crowds, have an FEAR perform. Wanting to be noticed and appreciated for their flair, FEARs are born to play with spontaneity and style. They tend to share their feelings without first devoting much thought.
FEARs perform best by being aggressive and reacting to whatever comes their way. When they are forced to slow down and do a lot of thinking, their performances suffer. They must stay loose, not deviating too much from their normal free flowing style of play.
Body Skill Bird
The Dove is representative of the Personal Observers. Most of us have seen a dove in the yard or elsewhere. It doesn’t take long to notice that they are basically gentle birds—communal, kind and loving to one another, and peaceable to other feathered friends. The dove is known for staying with its partner for a lifetime. It has been commended for thousands of years for these very traits.
In Genesis chapter eight of the Bible, the dove was the bird that Noah sent out from the ark to see if land had appeared again following a devastating world-wide flood and, sure enough, the dove returned with good news in the form of a freshly picked olive leaf. It was a harbinger of good tidings. What most of us forget from this dramatic event, however, is that the first bird Noah sent out was a raven. It was a scavenger and “unclean” bird, according to the Bible. The raven never returned.
Another event we often forget is that Noah sent the dove out once before it ever brought back the olive leaf. The first time it found nothing “clean” and so it returned to the massive ark empty beaked. The dove took more time before it found a living and clean plant.
Personable Observers prefer the right way, the honorable way, to treat others as they would like to be treated. Of course, their individual standards of ethics and morality will be the final basis for their behavior, but they generally have good intentions.
Doves are also known for being peacemakers; they’d rather get along than fight unnecessarily. The Scriptures depict the Spirit of God taking the form of a dove, a divine comforter. And lastly for the sake of our comparison, the dove represented the love of God for mankind.
Personal Observers, like the dove, are friendly, down-to-earth, and very much in the here-and-now. The abstract world is not to their liking. The Personal Observers are ALL gross-motor dominant, relying primarily on the big muscles of the body. Looking at the dove, we observe this as it walks on the ground.
Personal Observers are service oriented in their vocations: they’re nurses, salespeople, counselors, teachers, real estate agents, social workers, athletes and religious workers, to name some.
Carry out tasks to their completion.
Seek out a confidante who can encourage you to overcome any tendencies of compulsive thoughts and impulsive acts.
Develop a single-mindedness concerning some goal or even the direction of your life.
Ponder the long-term consequences of your actions and decisions.
